Putting drivers in focus part 2

November 16, 2021

In Putting drivers in focus part 1, we spoke of how Coretex designs its technology with drivers in mind. We aim to make their job easier and take the load off of the responsibility they carry - not to be confusing or cumbersome or to add extra stress to the job.  We covered how the CoreVision dashcam increases driver safety, boosts driver training and protects drivers against fraudulent claims.  We’re continuing with this theme by looking at how Coretex ELD and DVIR are designed to be easy to use while keeping safety and performance front of mind.

Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)

Tired, overworked drivers can lead to incidents on the road. Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) are proven to reduce driver fatigue by helping drivers comply with correct Hours of Service regulations. Compared to a traditional paper logbook, ELDs are easier to use and impossible to cheat. This means they take driver’s less time to fill out, and they are more accurate and ultimately safer. Federally mandated in the USA since 2017, and since 2021 in Canada, they are now common practice across North America and are spreading quickly around the world.

Coretex ELD has logged over 60,000,000 miles to help get drivers home safely at the end of each shift. It is easy to use and starts recording when the driver logs in, with automated prompts for rest and end of driving. Using easy-to-read on-screen charts, it tells them how much time they have until their next work or rest time is scheduled, and notifications can be set up to remind drivers ahead of time. Because it’s so easy to use, less mistakes are made, resulting in drivers receiving the correct amount of rest, keeping them alert and safe on the roads. Coretex ELD can be set to lock while driving, removing a potential distraction, and keeping drivers always focused on the road.

Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR)

Another tool designed to keep drivers safe on the road is digital DVIR, or Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. Digital DVIR are checklists that drivers use pre-and-post-trip to inspect mechanical and safety issues on their vehicle to ensure that everything is working as it is supposed to. In the past, completing DVIR, particularly older paper checklists, has been a thorn in many driver’s sides, a laborious task that stops them from starting their journeys sooner.

Here lies the biggest advantage of digital DVIR – it is much faster and easier to complete. Coretex DVIR is designed to be intuitive for drivers to use, to get them onto the road faster.

Greater accuracy is another benefit that digital DVIR has over paper checklists. DVIR are shared in real time with back-office staff, making sure they are filled out correctly, and if an issue is flagged on a vehicle that needs attention, notifications are sent direct to your maintenance team.

When repairs are completed, the driver gets notified. The driver can check the repairs were done correctly and close off a feedback loop ensuring the highest safety standards for your fleet. If serious issues are found in a vehicle, that vehicle can be automatically deemed unsafe to drive until it is resolved, reducing the chance of incidents.
