Putting drivers in focus

September 03, 2021

When a truck leaves the depot and is on the road, the driver takes primary responsibility for that truck. That means they oversee the health of the vehicle and the safety of everything around it. While that may sound a bit daunting – it is what truck drivers do, and they are good at it. At Coretex, one of the things we believe is that it is our role to develop technology that helps drivers do the best job they can, and takes a little weight off their shoulders.

The CoreVision dashcam is an example of technology that assists drivers to be their best. It is designed to keep drivers safe, help improve their skills (while boosting vehicle health at the same time), and keep their reputations in check. The added bonus to all of this is that these are not only great things for drivers – they benefit your fleet as a whole – everybody wins.

Level up driving skills

Regardless of how experienced and highly skilled any driver is, there’s always room for improvement. Dashcams streamline driver training by allowing for remote coaching, which means that more drivers can receive high levels of coaching in a shorter time period. This also helps to keep everyone safe in the time of COVID-19.

When combined with data from the on-board accelerometer, footage from a dashcam provides the ultimate coaching tool. By picking up on any particular areas that drivers may need coaching in, you can benefit them the best you can as individuals.

Made with privacy in mind

It is understandable that drivers can be skeptical about dashcams, particularly those that are driver facing. They spend hours on end in their cabs so the idea of someone watching them all day may not be particularly popular. Dashcams that are set to operate only when triggered by harsh events or similar go a long way to resolve these privacy concerns. It is a good idea to involve your drivers from the start of the dashcam buying process so that you can be as transparent as possible with them.

Positive reinforcement for drivers

Creating a driver scoring system by using dashcams and data from a truck’s onboard accelerometer is a great way to celebrate your drivers and reward them for their hard work. Give out monthly prizes for the top performing drivers to really add to this. Driver scoring systems can also help to identify drivers who may need some further training in particular areas to get them up to the best standard they can be.

Protect against fraudulent claims

While professional truck drivers are amongst the safest drivers on the road, they often are wrongly assumed to be at fault when an incident occurs. Dashcams provide hard video evidence that can be used to quickly exonerate drivers from any fraudulent or false claims. This can save you a lot of money, while at the same time protecting the reputation of your drivers and your organization.
